Isolated License Managers

A typical Sentinel RMS licensing deployment consists of a single, generic RMS License Manager on a single system, serving licenses to applications from multiple vendors. Although on paper, this can simplify the end customer installation requirements dramatically, it can also add some significant complexities. Multiple vendors are expected to share common configurations such as license files and usage logs, as well as system-wide environment variables. This can create too much complexity in terms of mixed usage statistics, unclassified log files, and License Manager upgrade and customization restrictions.

In this chapter, we demonstrate how to address this problem by providing Isolated License Managers for each software vendor.
